April 23, 2012

A car fire in the garage of a home caused damage to the home and two vehicles at 16 Courtland Lane. The department was sent to the home at 3:33 am on the morning of April 20th. Willingboro Police advised the fire department that there was fire and heavy smoke coming from the garage upon their arrival. Engine 1632 arrived in five minutes and confirmed the report.

Firefighters Burns and LeHuquet entered the home with a 2" handline and found two vehicles on fire in the garage. The fire was also starting to enter the attic area above the garage. Engine 1613 and Ladder 1615 arrived at which time Captain Ramsey took Command of the incident. Firefighters Anderson and Blackwell of Engine 1613 entered the home to assist the crew of Engine 1632. Ladder 1615's crew of Firefighters D. O'Donnell and Rydarowski removed both garage doors from the home, and then conducted a search of the home to ensure nobody was inside.

Later arrving crews from Beverly and Delran were used to check for hidden fire, and to remove residual smoke and heat from the rest of the home. The initial crews from Willingboro were able to contain the fire to the garage area of the home. The rest of the home only suffered smoke and heat damage. Captain Ramsey was able to place the fire under control at 3:53 am.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire. The home was declared uninhabitable by the Willingboro Township Construction Official's Office. The American Red Cross was called to assist with temporary housing for the family of the home. An investigation is being conducted by the Burlington County and NJ State Fire Marshal's Offices. There is no determination to the cause of the fire at this time. All units were clear from the scene at 8:41 am.
