Willingboro Fire Department Conducts Youth Fire Academy - Tuesday
By Firefighter Mark Robertson Sr.
August 26, 2014
On Tuesday the cadets were exposed to the responsibilities of the engine company. The engine company's main job is to conduct an initial investigation at an incident, and extinguish any fire if necessary. The Willingboro Fire Department has three engine companies. They are Engine 1613, Engine 1611, and Engine 1632.
The cadets stretched a 1-¾” hose line down a simulated hallway advancing to the seat of a fire. They also worked as a team to advance a 2-½” hose line, all while applying water on a target. The cadets establish a secure water supply to a fire hydrant using 5” supply line while putting the engine mounted deck gun in service. At the end of the day, the cadets were taught how to properly place the hose lines back on the engine so that it is ready for service.
