On Wednesday the cadets were given instruction on some of the many tasks a truck (ladder) company would perform. The cadets learned how to carry and raise ground ladders, how to conduct primary searches for trapped victims, and were given instruction on the proper techniques to force entry into a building using hand tools called “the irons”. The department operates Ladder 1615
In the afternoon the cadets were instructed on how firefighters perform vehicle extrication and got the opportunity to use the hydraulic rescue tools, sometimes called the “Jaws of Life”, to rescue the victims of a car accident. The Jaws of Life are carried on two of the department's pieces of apparatus, Engine 1613 and Rescue 1619.
