Deliver Truck Brings Down Power Lines Behind Shopping Center
By Firefighter Mark Robertson Sr.
December 9, 2014
A tractor trailer making a delivery to the Country Club Plaza brought down several power lines, poles, and transformers on the morning of December 8th. Willingboro Firefighters were notified about the accident at 10:07 am. Engine 1613 arrived on scene at 10:15 and found the truck with a utility pole leaning against it in the rear of the shopping center.
Lieutenant Friddell immediately requested Public Service Electric to respond due to the extensive damage to the electrical equipment. Crews also contained oil that had spilled from one of the transformers which was located on the utility pole. The Burlington County Health Department responded to the scene since some of the oil ran into the storm water drainage system prior to the arrival of the fire department. The spilled oil was found to not be a hazard.
Engine 1613 and Fire Police 1618 remained on location for several hours while Public Service Electric crews removed the utility pole and wires from the delivery truck. Once the pole and wires were removed from the truck the Public Service crew cut off power to most of the shopping center until they were able to make final repairs. There were no injuries as a result of the accident and the fire department was clear from the scene at 1:02 pm.
