November 19, 2015

The resident of a home in Twin Hills was able to escape from a house fire with only minor burns. Firefighters from Willingboro and surrounding towns were called to the home on Terrace Court at 8:10 pm on November 19th. Engines 1613 and 1612 responded immediately and were advised that a bedroom in the home was on fire and a person was trapped inside. The two engines arrived in five minutes and found a one-story home with fire coming from the windows of two bedrooms. Lieutenant J. Clark called for "All Companies In Service", which indicates a significant fire.

Lieutenant Clark along with Firefighters Boyle and E. O'Donnell entered the home with a 1 3/4" hose line to start extinguishing the fire, and to search for the resident. Captain Ramsey took Command of the incident, and had Engine 1612 connect to a nearby hydrant and supply water to Engine 1613. As the interior crew was making its way down the hallway to the bedrooms, the fire started to intensify and go through the roof. Captain Ramsey called for all firefighters to exit the building due to the intensifying fire and the discovery that the resident had found their way out of the home.

1613 went into operation with its "deck gun, which can spray several hundred gallons of water a minute onto the fire. Chief of Department Burnett arrived on scene as the fire was being contained and took Command of the incident, while Captain Ramsey became the Operations Officer. Lieutenant Clark, along with Firefighters Boyle and Bowe, then re-entered the home to finish extinguishing the fire. Delran Ladder 2315 arrived on scene and their crew took a second 1 3/4" hose line from 1613 to assist with extinguishing the fire.

Chief Burnett was able to place the fire under control in 35 minutes. Additional arriving crews from Burlington Township and Mount Laurel assisted with checking for hidden fire and removing burned debris from the home. The front two bedrooms of the home were completely destroyed by the fire. The remainder of the home suffered heat and smoke damage.

The resident of the home was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her burns, and eventually transferred to Temple University Burn Unit in Philadelphia. No other civilians or firefighters were injured due to the fire. An investigation was conducted by the Burlington County Fire Marshal's Office. No working smoke detectors were found in the home. All companies were available from the scene at 12:36 am on November 19th.
