By Firefighter Mark Robertson Sr.
April 21, 2016

Willingboro Firefighters responded to a smoky fire in a building containing bathrooms at Broido Park. The department was called to the Twin Hills Park section of town at 3:50 pm on April 12th. A caller reported a building on fire in the area, but was unsure of the actual address. A follow up phone call confirmed that the address was at the park, which is on Twin Hills Drive.

Deputy Chief Sitzenstock arrived first and reported a heavy smoke condition coming from the bathroom building located at the front of the park. He directed Engine 1613 to have its crew pull a 1 3/4" hoseline to extinguish the fire. Lieutenant Friddell and Firefighter Centrone entered the unlocked bathroom and found a small fire, which was quickly extinguished by the crew. The Deputy Chief placed the fire under control in four minutes.

Chief of Department and Engine 1612 also responded to the incident. 1612's crew assisted 1613's crew with restoring their hose and equipment. Chief Burnett contacted the Parks and Recreation Department, along with the Burlington County Fire Marshal's Office. An investigation was completed by the fire marshal and the building was then secured by the Parks and Recreation Department. All units were available from the incident at 5:05 pm.
