Willingboro firefighters used the Jaws of Life to rescue one person from a vehicle that was involved in a crash on Route 130. The department was called to Route 130 and Van Sciver Parkway at 16:01 hours on the 27th of December. Numerous 911 calls were reporting a two car motor vehicle accident with one vehicle leaning on the concrete median. A second vehicle was disabled in the roadway. The vehicle on the concrete median was also leaning against a traffic light post.

Engine 1613 and Rescue 1619 arrived on scene in five minutes, along with Willingboro Police and Emergency Medical personnel. Lieutenant Friddell had the police officers shut down all of the southbound lanes of the highway. This allowed firefighters Fresco, Riley, and Hollis to secure the vehicle on the concrete median with specialized equipment. The equipment is designed to stabilize the vehicle, which would prevent it from moving while the rescuers worked to free the trapped occupant.

Firefighters Riley and Hollis used the Jaws of Life to remove the entire passenger side door of the vehicle. The entire stabilization of the vehicle, and the removing of the door took on 14 minutes. Once the door was removed, firefighters were able to take the occupant from the car and allow emergency medical personnel to start treating the injuries. The occupant was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation was called to the scene for repairs to the traffic light pole. Fire Police from Burlington Township assisted with controlling traffic during the rescue efforts. Firefighters also used an absorbent material to help control the engine fluids that spilled from the second vehicle. All Willingboro Fire Department units were clear from the scene at 4:52 pm.
