Firefighters from Willingboro and surrounding towns were called to 20 Medford Lane for a house fire on the evening of March 8th. The department was dispatched at 5:21 pm after a 911 call was received for a kitchen fire. A second 911 call was received reporting a fire on the stove that the resident had attempted to extinguish. Chief of Department Burnett and Deputy Chief Sitzenstock arrived on location to find a home with smoke coming the front door.
Engine 1613 arrived four minutes after being dispatched, along with Ladder 1615 and Engine 1612. Lieutenant Friddell entered the smoke filled home with firefighters Priest and LeHuquet. The crew of Engine 1613 found fire, heat, and smoke in the kitchen. They started to extinguish the fire with a 1 3/4" hose line, and took out windows to help remove the smoke and heat. Due to the quick actions of the crew, Chief Burnett was able to place the fire under control at 5:37 pm.
Engine 1612's crew entered the home and did a search to confirm that no persons were in the home. 1615's crew assisted 1613's crew with checking the kitchen for any hidden fire. The kitchen suffered major damage from the fire and heat, with the rest of the home suffering damage from smoke. A representative from the Willingboro Township Construction Official's Office was on scene, and deemed the home uninhabitable.
No firefighters or civilians were injured during the incident. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the resident with temporary housing and other provisions. Crews from Beverly, Delran, and Moorestown were on scene until the incident was under control. An investigation was conducted by the Burlington County Fire Marshal's Office, and deemed to be an accidental fire. All units were clear from the scene at 8:55 pm. |
