Firefighters from Willingboro and neighboring communities were able to quickly contain a fire that damaged a home in Somerset Park on the evening of July 27th. The companies were sent to 51 Stonehaven Lane at 9:51 pm. The Burlington County 911 Center had received several calls reporting the house to be on fire. Willingboro Police arrived on scene and confirmed a fire and requested an expedited response from the fire department.

Engine 1613 and Ambulance 1692 arrived in seven minutes and Lieutenant Ferrell reported heavy smoke coming from both sides of the roof. He requested "All Companies In Service" which signifies a major incident. Firefighter Carcasio pulled a 1 3/4" hoseline and proceeded into the home. Lieutenant Ferrell and Firefighter LeHuquet entered the home as well. The crew found heavy fire conditions in a garage that had been converted to a bedroom. They used hand tools to open up the walls and ceilings to aid with fire extinguishment.

Ladder 1615 arrived a minute later and Captain Gardner took command of the incident. Firefighter Centrone, along with firefighters from Beverly Engine 1224 made their way to the second floor. In blinding smoke conditions they opened up the attic area to check for extending fire. An arriving crew from Burlington Township Engine 3022 connected to a nearby fire hydrant and connected their supply hose to Engine 1613. Chief of Department Burnett arrived on scene and took over as the Command Officer, and assigned Captain Gardner as the Operations Officer.

The quick work of 1613's crew kept the fire contained to the garage area. Chief of Department Burnett was able to place the fire under control at 10:21 pm. Crews from Burlington Township and Mount Laurel Ladder 3615 relieved the crews from Willingboro and Beverly. They made a final check to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and that it did not spread to other areas of the home.

While the fire damage was limited to the garage, the rest of the home did suffer heat and smoke damage. The occupants of the home were given assistance with temporary housing by the American Red Cross. Firefighters from Delran and Burlington City were on stand-by at Willingboro Fire Headquarters incase of other emergencies in town. An investigation was conducted by the Burlington County Fire Marshals Office. All units were clear from the scene at 2:01 am.
