Firefighters from the department have been paying visits to local schools during the month of October to deliver fire prevention education. Fire Prevention Week occurs every October. This year's theme is "Not Every Hero Wears A Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!". While in the schools the firefighters are talking about having two escape routes from the home, calling 911 only for emergencies, and the importance of knowing their address.

During the visits to the schools the firefighters have also shown the students and staff some of the equipment they use when fighting a fire. The firefighters have also demonstrated what a firefighter looks like in his protective clothing and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. As of today the department has visited the W. R. James Elementary, Hawthorne Elementary, and Benjamin Banneker Prep Charter Schools. Firefighters will be visiting several other schools in the township of the next few weeks.
