| A fire that started outside of a Garfield East home caused minor damage to the home on Tuesday, July 6th. At 11:57 am the department was called to 32 Eastgate Lane for a reported house fire. The fire was discovered by a neighbor who called 911 and then used a garden hose to extinguish the fire. Chief of Department Burnett arrived first and found no signs of smoke or fire. Upon further investigation he found that a fire started in a mulch pile on the side of the house, and caught part of the house on fire underneath of the vinyl siding.
Captain Gardner along with Firefighters Friddell, Anderson, and LeHuquet used various hand tools to make sure all of the burned siding was removed from the home. They also checked inside the house for any damage from the fire. There was no damage to the inside of the home. The crew thoroughly doused the side of the house and mulch area with water before leaving the scene.
Not only did the firefighters have to contend with the fire, they also had to deal with temperatures of over 100 degrees. The residents of the home were able to remain in the home since there was only damage to the outside. All units were released from the incident at 12:23 pm. |
