Firefighters from Willingboro and neighboring towns responded to a fire at a vacant house in Garfield Park North on the afternoon of June 23rd. Willingboro firefighters were originally dispatched for a rubbish fire in the rear of the 52 New Pond Lane at 1:20 pm. Engine 1611 arrived in six minutes and Lieutenant Friddell reported that an enclosed porch on the rear of the home was on fire. This caused the incident to be upgraded to house fire response, which called for units from Westampton, Burlington Township, and Burlington City.

Firefighter E. O'Donnell pulled a 1" hoseline to the rear of the home to extinguish the fire. Firefighter Centrone used a hand tool to break up the porch area in search of hidden fire. Utility 1617 arrived on scene and its crew forced entry to the home and found no fire had entered the interior. The crew was able to completely extinguish the fire in five minutes.

The fire is under investigation by the Burlington County Fire Marshals Office. All units were clear from the scene at 3:18 pm.
