The Office of the State Fire Marshal has issued a warning about the latest trend on social media sites called the "Fire Challenge". The challenge typically involves teenagers pouring an ignitable liquid onto their bare skin, and then setting themselves on fire. Someone then films this event and the video is posted to social media sites such as Facebook and YouTube.

The "Fire Challenge" is not only an issue for emergency responders, but for parents as well. Parents are encouraged to read the warning, which is provided along with this story. Since the ignitable liquid is usually poured on the chest area, not only can the person receive serious burns to the skin, but they can also receive serious burns to their respiratory tract. Anybody who receives injuries after attempting the challenge should be treated at the nearest hospital emergency room.
