Thursday was field trip day for the cadets. The cadets and the academy staff visited the Fireman’s Hall Museum in Philadelphia. While at the museum, the cadets learned more about the history of the fire service. They saw some antique fire apparatus and antique hand tools used by firefighters generations ago.

The next stop on our field trip took them to the riverfront where they were met up with Philadelphia Fire Department (FD) Rescue 1. The cadets got a chance to tour their apparatus and learn the special roles of the rescue company. Rescue 1 is an elite group of firefighters who respond to fires, motor vehicle accidents, and other specialized rescue incidents throughout the city of Philadelphia.

From there, they were taken on a tour of Philadelphia FD Fire Boat “Delaware”. The cadets and staff were taken for a ride out into the Delaware River where the cadets got to use the boat’s hose lines to flow water.
