Firefighters from Willingboro and several surrounding towns were dispatched to a house fire at 48 Gainscott Lane on the morning of March 7th. The fire was dispatched at 2:57 am, which brought Supervisor 1610 (Lieutenant Friddell) and 1611 to the scene. They arrived in six minutes to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the house. Lieutenant Friddell requested "All Companies In Service", which indicates a significant fire.

Firefighters D. O'Donnell and Costello prepared to enter the home with a 2" hose line and hand tools. Captain Gardner completed a walk around of the outside of the house to check the fire conditions from the outside. The crew was met with heavy fire at the front door and the kitchen area of the home. Westampton Chief 2700 arrived on scene along with Engine 2723. The chief took the Operations sector and the engine connected a 5" hose to a nearby hydrant to help supply extra water to Engine 1611. The crew from 2723 also entered the structure to start a search.

Mount Laurel Battalion Chief 3620 and Ladder 3615 arrived on scene and took a position in front of the home. 3615's crew assisted with ventilating the smoke and heat from the home. Mount Laurel RIC 3632 arrived on scene and took a stand-by position outside. Once Moorestown RIC 3113 arrived on scene 3632's crew was sent in to relieve the crew of Engine 1611. Lieutenant Friddell was able to place the fire under control in 30 minutes.

Due to the cold temperatures, additional crews from Cinnaminson and Riverton were called into the scene. They assisted with ensuring all fire was extinguished and that there was no hidden fire in the walls, ceilings, or attic of the kitchen and front porch. The fire damaged the entire kitchen, the attic above the kitchen, and the front porch area. The rest of the home received smoke and heat damage.

The home had no working smoke detectors, but all occupants were able to get out of the home without injury. The American Red Cross was called to assist the residents with temporary housing. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for an injury due to slipping on ice. The fire was investigated by the Burlington County Fire Marshal's Office. All units were clear from the scene at 7:07 am.
