Willingboro firefighters were recently called to assist at a 2 alarm house fire at 10 Lansberry Drive in Burlington Township. Engine 1613 was originally called at 5:15 pm on July 22nd for a stand-by at Burlington Township Fire Headquarters. While responding to the stand-by, the unit was called into the scene as a RIC (Rapid Intervention Crew) when several firefighters became trapped inside of the house. A RIC is a specialized rescue team that is used when firefighters become lost or injured during a firefighting incident.

Upon arrival, the chief of the Burlington Township Fire Department advised Captain Gardner that all firefighters were out of the home. He requested that 1613's crew assist with firefighting efforts. Along with the Captain, Firefighters D. O'Donnell, Costello, and Robertson proceeded to the rear yard of the home. After several minutes the crew was sent to the second floor of the home to help remove the sheet rock from the walls and ceiling to check for any hidden fire.

Once their assignment was complete, the crew proceeded outside and received water from the emergency medical units that were on scene. The crew was then sent back inside the home to help extinguish a small fire that started to burn in a closet on the second floor. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the crew was then released from the incident.

The home sustained substantial damage due to the fire. Two firefighters were taken to a local hospital and quickly released after receiving treatment. Engine 1613 was back in Willingboro at 6:35 pm.
