A home on JFK Way suffered severe damage as a result of a kitchen fire. Willingboro firefighters were called to 240 JFK Way at 2:37 pm on June 15th for an applicance fire. While enroute 1613 was advised that Willingboro Police were on location with smoke and fire coming from the home. Engine 1613 and Ladder 1615 arrived in four minutes and Captain Sitzenstock reported smoke coming from the home.

Chief of Department Burnett arrived shortly thereafter and assumed command of the incident. He immediately requested a full first alarm assignment and an additional ambulance to the scene. Firefighter's Carty and Costello entered the home and found smoke and fire in the kitchen. Firefighter Carty used a 1 3/4" handline to quickly extinguish the fire.

Firefighter E. O'Donnell started to ventilate smoke and heat from the home by removing widows. Firefghter's J. Clark and Blackwell prepared Ladder 1615 for service. Firefighter's O'Donnell and Blackwell then entered the home to assist the crew that was working inside. They checked the attic area to make sure the fire had not extended into other areas of the house

The fire was placed under control in 20 minutes. Due to the damage caused by the fire the electric, natural gas, and water service to the house was shut off. No firefighter's or civilians were injured as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross was called to assist with providing temporary housing and other provisions for the family.

The Burlington County Fire Marshal was on scene to assist with investigating the fire. The fire appears to be accidental as a result of unattended cooking. The house was boarded up for security purposes. All units were cleared from the scene at 5:11 pm.
