By Firefighter Mark Robertson Sr.
March 11, 2008

Willingboro Firefighters were called to 18 Parish Lane at 5:20 am on Tuesday, March 11 for a house fire with numerous people calling to report the fire. The department's A Platoon responded and arrived to find heavy fire coming from the garage of the two story home. Captain Sitzenstock notified the communications center of the conditions and requested "All Companies In Service".

Firefighters Clark and Robertson started firefighting efforts along with Captain Sitzenstock. Firefighter Fresco established a water supply from a nearby hydrant with the assistance of Willingboro police officers. A 2" handline was pulled and used to start extinguishing the fire. Chief of Department Burnett arrived on scene and assumed the Command Officer as Captain Sitzenstock became the Operations Officer.

Once the fire was darkened down in the garage, Firefighters Clark and Robertson made their way around the back of the home and started to put out the fire in the kitchen and dining area. Since the crew did not have enough personnel to meet the state's "Two In/Two Out" guidelines, they made a strong effort and extinguished most of the fire from the exterior of the home.

Upon the arrival of Deputy Chief Vetter, a crew was able to enter the home to complete extinguishing the fire. Eventually a 2 1/2" and 1 3/4" handline were used to assist with the extinguishment of the fire. As additional crews arrived on scene they checked the second floor of the home for any hidden fire.

Chief Burnett placed the fire under control at 6:13 am. Mutual Aid crews were on scene to assist with checking for hidden fire and to remove burned materials from the home. The fire is being investigated by the Willingboro Township Fire Official's Office, and one resident was transported to the hospital for a foot injury. All crews cleared the scene at 11:57 am
