By Firefighter Mark Robertson Sr.
December 19, 2012

Willingboro Firefighters were called to the Merck Medco property on Millennium Way for a commercial truck on fire at 8:44 am on the morning of December 19th. Engine 1613 was advised that a box truck in the parking lot of the property was on fire. The crew arrived and found a truck used to shred paper at commercial properties with smoke coming from the rear.

The crew opened the rear of the truck and found it filled with a light smoke condition. Captain Gardner and Firefighter C. Clark entered the truck and found small fires throughout the rear of the truck. They used shovels to remove the shredded paper from the rear of the truck and onto the ground in the parking lot. Firefighter Robertson used a shovel to spread out the paper as Firefighter Blackwell hosed down the burning paper.

It took the crew approximately 25 minutes to remove all of the burning paper from the rear of the truck. The truck was not damaged as a result of the fire. The company that owns the truck sent a crew to clean up the shredded paper that was removed from the truck. Engine 1613 was available from the incident at 9:26 am.

Units: Engine 1613 and Ambulance 1693
